MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Hi everyone! I am Aoife Hannon, founder of The Pilates Programme. I live in Tipperary in Ireland with my husband Brendan, our little boy Hugo and our dog Oscar. I am really close with my family in Kerry and we love spending time there. I would like to take this chance to share a little bit about how TPP came about with you.
From a young age I have always been really passionate about exercise and I love to explore different and fun ways to keep fit and active. This passion lead me to study a Degree in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Limerick (UL). I then went on to complete an MSc in Physiotherapy, also at UL. I spent 4 years working as a Physiotherapist in an acute hospital and in a rehab setting.
While studying in college, I decided to do a Pilates course, with the goal to teach classes in the evenings to help with my masters fees. Funnily enough, my now husband is the one who encouraged me to do the course, having tried Pilates himself.
This is where my passion for Pilates began. It was new to me at the time of the course (I had never even taken a Pilates class before this) but I absolutely loved it and once I qualified, I began teaching in-person classes in Tipperary. The numbers in the classes were small initially, but with time they grew and I had the same lovely group of clients coming to my classes all of the time. When Covid hit and I was no longer able to teach my in-person classes, I began teaching my clients on Zoom. I then started advertising my classes online via my instagram page and the numbers in my classes grew and grew. That is when The Pilates Programme was born. It was never a plan to have an online Pilates platform, it just evolved naturally.
When I founded TPP with my husband, I was working full time as a Physiotherapist in an acute hospital setting. After 2 years of juggling both The Pilates Programme and full-time work, I decided to take the leap to focus solely on TPP. We now have an online platform with 300+ classes and an incredible community of members logging on from all over the world.
Over time I have developed my own style of Pilates classes, drawing elements from different Pilates styles, Yoga, Ballet Barre and even strength training. We now have a class for everybody and every fitness level on TPP. I firmly believe that regular exercise in the form of strengthening our bodies in a safe way is the key to a healthy, well aligned body. I feel so lucky to be able to teach Pilates and I am incredibly passionate about teaching classes that can yield such wonderful results both physically and mentally.
